Reading the liner note on the Strapping Young Lad "best of " album, and evil genius Devin Townsend writes this for song-opener "S.Y.L." from the first SYL album "Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing"
Devin Townsend: "So, this starts SYL ... I had been freshly ass-raped by the industry during my time with Vai, and wanted to scream at everybody. Definitely influenced by the likes of Fear Factory, Godflesh, Meathook Seed, Pitch Shifter, NIN and O.L.D ... a real "fuck you" to everyone and everything. The young voice in the intro is me at age 3, taped by my mother."

S.Y.L. is my fav track. "Heavy as a really heavy thing" sound is VERY industrial. "In the rainy season" and "goat" are good examples of that.
