Anyone into Sci Fi? Even if just a passing interest?
I'm not super involved. I don't go to conventions or collect action figures or anything like that, but I have to say my favourite tv programs, films and even books tend to be Sci Fi based.
I remember watching Return of the Jedi recorded off ITV on a beta max tape in the 80's a lot as a kid. Of course my parents recorded it but missed the first 20 minutes or so, and I never saw the beginning until some time in the mid 90's! That was probably my first encounter with Sci Fi, although thinking about it it's probably more Fantasy in genre.
I've read most of Michael Crichton's books thanks in no small part to the astronomical success of Jurassic Park. Congo (great book, mediocre film), The Terminal Man, The Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Prey are the Sci Fi ones that spring to mind, but Disclosure and Rising Sun are notable ones as well.
Stargate I've really liked. Mixing ancient mythology + aliens really interested me. Star Trek I can take or leave.
I think I like the concept of time travel the most so I like films that touch on that. Donnie Darko (original cut, not directors), The Jacket, first Butterfly Effect, Deja Vu, even Next with nick cage where he could see various situations in the future had a kind of time travel element to it.

Ahh yeah I liked the 4400, and was disappointed it got canceled before it could properly conclude.
Quite a quirky, family friendly series I liked in the 90's was Early Edition. It wasn't sci fi per se, but the main protagonist kept getting tomorrow's newspaper today and had to act on any tragedies reported.
